After Turkish forces have, maybe by an overreaction, shot down a provoking Russian fighter- the Russians support Assad as they have a navy base there in Latakia - close to the Turkish border- a plane that had no ID/flag nor a transponder- and after finally apologizing to Putin for shooting his jet, both stubborn leaders arranged peace in Sankt Petersburg in summer 2016, something obviously not wanted by some western countries though. Also, as Turkey is a NATO member! In Istanbul then they established a huge gas deal, something just postponed, and Putin took seat in the golden chair, Merkel had to sit down before, which, by the way confused her so much, that she did not even recognize Erdogan was stretching her out his hand for the common handshake. So Turkey, a NATO member, next to Iran, Syria and China joins the club of good Russian friends. So, this suspended pipeline, Turkish Stream, is going to get build from Russia to Turkey finally too and Russian tourists are allowed to book holidays in Turkey again.
